Plymouth Argyle have eyes set on Tottenham teenage prospects Ashley Phillips and Alfie Devine for next season.

The duo, who spent the second half of the season on loan at the Championship side, made a positive impact during their time with Plymouth Argyle, prompting interest from the English second-tier club in retaining them for another season.

Plymouth Live reported that Neil Dewsnip, Plymouth Argyle’s director of football, has confirmed the club’s interest in renewing the loan deals for Phillips and Devine, indicating ongoing discussions with Tottenham regarding their potential availability for the upcoming season.

Speaking after Plymouth Argyle’s 1-0 win against Hull City, Dewsnip stated (quotes via Plymouth Live):

“The loan players will obviously go back (to the parent clubs) but we are already in discussions to see if we can maybe access one or two of those to stay again next year, but we are very early in the discussions.”

Ashley Phillips, who joined Tottenham from Blackburn Rovers last summer, seamlessly integrated into Plymouth’s starting XI, making 18 starts in 20 appearances across the Championship and the FA Cup since his arrival.

Meanwhile, Alfie Devine, a highly-rated talent from the Spurs academy, featured in 15 Championship matches this season, demonstrating versatility by playing in central midfield, attacking midfield, and left wing positions.

Both players played pivotal roles in Plymouth Argyle’s recent 1-0 victory over Hull City, securing the club’s escape from relegation by a narrow one-point margin.

Whether Tottenham loan the duo back to a Championship side or decide to further boost their development by sending them to a Premier League club remains to be seen.
