Colts P Rigoberto Sanchez tears Achilles running sprint, out for season
Matt Pendleton-USA TODAY Sports

Indianapolis Colts punter Rigoberto Sanchez is out for the season with a torn Achilles suffered during a wind sprint on Tuesday.

Sanchez is likely to miss several months, leaving the team without a kickoff specialist and punter, roles Sanchez has filled since he joined the team as an undrafted free agent in 2017.

The Colts had no official word on pass rusher Kwity Paye, who walked off the field but needed a ride to the locker room in a golf cart. Multiple reports indicated Paye sustained a knee injury.

A first-round draft pick in 2021, Paye had four sacks as a rookie with one forced fumble and two fumble recoveries.

Multiple media outlets on Wednesday reported the Colts are signing punter Matt Haack, who was released two days earlier by the Buffalo Bills.

Haack, 28, played all 17 games for Buffalo last season and averaged 42.9 yards on 52 punts. He spent the previous four seasons with the Miami Dolphins.

Running sprints for conditioning at the end of Tuesday's practice, Sanchez pulled up injured. The Colts announced Wednesday he underwent testing that confirmed his Achilles is torn.

Last season, Sanchez dropped 24 of his 59 punts inside the opponents' 20 and averaged 44.5 yards per punt.

Sanchez, 27, has also been one of the team's primary holders for field goals and extra points.
