Fighters can go into devastating slumps that ruin their career. Just look at Holly Holm. After losing to Kayla Harrison at UFC 300, her own boss is calling for her to retire. Life isn’t good for “The Preacher’s Daughter,” nor is life treating Tony Ferguson (26-10) well.

When a fighter loses seven straight matches, that’s not a good thing. For “El Cucuy,” he’s in that situation. Losing to random fighters such as Bobby Green, Paddy Pimblett, and Beneil Dariush doesn’t help matters.

With that, should Ferguson hang up his gloves and ride off into the sunset? Here’s a look at why the Los Angeles native should consider retiring from MMA competition for good.

A Look At Tony Ferguson’s Career

Tony Ferguson was supposed to be the chosen one to take down Khabib Nurmagomedov many moons ago. A fight was supposed to go down between the two, with the match being the main event for a card. However, the match never materialized for numerous reasons.

These range from Khabib pulling out of a scheduled title fight at UFC 249 to rib injuries. It’s the biggest of what-ifs in UFC history that could’ve skyrocketed Ferguson’s career, that is if he won. Still, “El Cucuy” has big wins in his career, defeating the likes of Anthony Pettis and Rafael dos Anjos.

Why Should Tony Ferguson Retire?

Father Time is undefeated in life, taking numerous things from people as they age. Whether it’s athletic or cognitive ability, losing your senses can be debilitating as an athlete. For Tony Ferguson, he’s no different.

His inability to finish his fights has shown, with three of his last seven fights coming via decision. Offensively, Ferguson is decimated, losing the killer instinct he was known for. He’s also prone to getting caught in unpleasant positions in the octagon, staying away from the middle.

Some things aren’t meant to last forever. Whether it’s bands staying together for too long or athletes not retiring until their skills fade, life tends to move on from what we love. For Tony Ferguson, it might be time to do this and start a new adventure.
